John Hollier and Elizabeth Hollis

Sue Hedges, another One-Namer, told me about this marriage from 1852 which she had come across in the parish registers for Shipton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire. As it happens, I already had this marriage in my records, but it's always nice when other one-namers are looking out for one another. I was able to tell her that a Hollier had married a Hedges in New Zealand, another lead for her.

Lois Bergeron Cook

Lois wrote to me about her ancestry from the Louisiana Holliers. She was able to provide me with more information about the family of Adauct Hollier and I was able to show her the earlier generations from Nantes in France. However, genealogy is not their top priority. She says "It is a little crazy at my house due to the recent hurricanes. We have a number of evacuees living with us for awhile".

Seamens' service records online

Howard Benbrook from the Guild pointed out that the registers of seamens' service records are now available from the TNA website. I downloaded all the Hollyer, Holyer and Hollier names and bought the record of my grandfather's brother George William Hollyer who died in 1915 in an explosion on the HMS Mohawk. Even if you only look at the indexes, it often gives the precise the date of birth, which is useful. In George's case, he quoted a birth date one year earlier than it actually was. Perhaps he got into the navy early when he enlisted in 1909.

Mark Sealey

Mark Sealey sent through another birth certificate from his Hollier family, this time, Kate Elizabeth Hollier. The fact that this birth is in Northampton, rather than later children who were born in Watford, suggests that the 'missing' marriage of the parents Joseph Essex Hollier and Martha Manning, probably took place in Northampton. They are part of the Alcester Hollier family.

Hollyer-Hill family

Chris Sackett, who lives in Guernsey, was very helpful by looking up some the records of the Hollyer-Hill family in Guernsey, which helps understand a bit more about this branch.

Kaelen Gregory Hollyer born 2005

On a brighter note, Paula Donahue, wife of David Hollyer from Arizona, e-mailed to say she has a new grandson, Kaelen Gregory Hollyer, son of Trevor and Geneva Hollyer.

Mary Josephine Field (nee Hollyer) 1921-2005

Mary Field, Jo Field's daughter, wrote to tell me that her mother had died last May. She had been a keen correspondent over many years from my Canadian cousins.

Marsha Mayzel

Marsha wrote telling me she has a painting by William Stanley Hollyer (son of William Perring Hollyer) that is just like those painted by his father, i.e. Scottish cattle. I've added this to my Hollyer Art Gallery.

Somerset Holliers

Today have heard from Philip (Ben) Hollier and his daughter Carley. Had previously contacted his brother Mike in July. They come from the Somerset Holliers, places include Uphill, Congresbury, Hewish etc. Sent them a tree.
